Leica Geosystems

Leica Geosystems (formally known as Wild Heerbrugg or just Wild) are a company that produce products and systems for surveying and geographical measurement.

Its products employ a variety of technologies including GPS satellite navigation and laser rangefinder to enable users to model existing structures, terrain in computer based systems to high accuracies, often uder 1cm.

The brand Leica, better known for its high quality cameras was formed on the 2nd of April 1990 after the merger of several companies.

This is the Leica Geosystems logo. This is another metrology logo that just relies on the type to communicate. The Leica has been produced with a modern type which has been made to look old and fairly vintage. This is to communicate to people that it is a company that has been established for a long time.

The Geosystems text below it on the other hand has been produced from a condensed italic sans serif font which represents the modern and cutting edge side of the company.

This logo works very well because it communicates established success with the cutting edge technology of tomorrow. The pastel red colour also works well because it is eye catching but remains placid at the same time.

Although the logo does not represent any aspects of the science behind metrology it still works because it has chosen to focus on its history as a well established and successful company that is till at the forefront of the technology it produces.
