Virgin Racing is a Formula One racing team, which made its debut in the 2010 Formula one season. They were granted entry as Manor Grand Prix on 12 June 2009, as one of four new teams selected to race in the 2010 season. On 30 November, the FIA released a revised entry list that stated the team's name as Virgin Racing. Richard bransons Virgin Racing group is the title sponsor of the team, which was launched on 15 December 2009.
The Logo for Virgin Racing is one of my favourite ever logos. Its futuristic and sleek design is something that I really want to be able to achieve during this course. It is also a particularly clever design as the V and the R have been joined together and been made to look like part of a racing track.
Scuderia Toro Rosso (Italian for Team Red Bull) is one of two Formula One teams owned by Austrian Beverage company Red Bull (the other is Red Bull Racing). It made its racing debut in the 2006 Formula one Season after Paul Stodart sold his remaining interest in the Minardi team at the end of 2005 to Red Bull's owner, Dietrich Mateschitz who subsequently struck a 50/50 joint-ownership deal with former F1 driver, Gerhard Berger, before the start of the season. In late November 2008, Red Bull regained total ownership of Toro Rosso after buying back Berger's share of the team.
Even though this team is the Italian Red Bull team I was surprised to see how different the design for the logo was. it doesn't have a very corporate feel but rather has a lot of traditional aspects of Italian design, for example the grand swirls at the beginning of the T. It does however, have a similar style to many of the coffee companies in Italy like Segafredo Zanetti.
Renault F1 is the Renault company's Formula one racing team. Renault has a long though intermittent history of involvement in motor racing, including Ferenc Szisz winning the first French grand Prix usually regarded as marking the birth of Grand prix Motor Racing. Renault has competed in Formula One (originally via subsidiary Renault Sport), both as an engine supplier and as a constructor from the late 1970s to the present day, with several breaks.
The logo for Renault is one that I am not particularly keen on. Its big block typeface looks a bit tired and dated and it doesn't emit the speed, style and agility of some of the other Logos. This is a style that I wish to avoid when it comes to designing.
Red Bull Racing is one of two Formula One teams owned by Austrian Beverage company Red Bull (the other being Scuderia Toro Rosso). The team is based in Milton keynes in the UK but holds an Austrian licence. The team is managed by Christian Horner boss of the Arden International GP 2 series team. The team uses Renault engines.
This is a logo that I thinks stands differently to the others seen in the racing league. Most of the other racing teams in the league have typically racing style logos as most of them are car or engine manufacturers. Red Bull's logo however does fit in really well with sport as it is colourful and depicts a certain strength that could be seen as fairly intimidating.
Although it is not a thorough bread racing logo, it is the mix between corporate brands like Red Bull and the Racing sport that creates interesting and unique design.
Lotus Racing, also referred to by the company name 1Malaysia F1 Team by the Malaysian media and parliament is a Formula One team, making its debut in the 2010 Formula One Season. Despite Lotus Racing and the former Team Lotus not being connected by much more than name, Team Principal Tony Fernandes was clear that if and when the team were to win it would not be Lotus Racing's first but Lotus' 80th victory. The team have said they will use the Team Lotus name in the 2011 season but are facing legal action from Group Lotus over the use of the Lotus name.
The team gained its entry after BMW announced they would withdraw from Formula One at the end of the 2009 season. They have joined Virgin Racing and Hispania Racing f1 team as new teams for 2010.
The Lotus racing Logo, in my opinion has been very well put together. The bold type of the 'Lotus' has been placed very symmetrically under the image in the logo. The image appears to me as a racing track and gives the meaning across to the viewer that they are in control and are the the forefront of the sport. I think the usage of colour is also good as the yellow draws attention to the race track which is behind the meaning in the image.
Scuderia Ferrari is the racing team division of the Ferrari automobile company. The team currently only races in Formula One but has competed in numerous classes of motorsport since its formation in 1929, including sportscar racing.
The team was founded by Enzo ferrari, initially to race cars produced by Alfa Romeo, though by 1947 Ferrari had begun building their own cars. It is also the oldest surviving team in Grand Prix racing, having competed since 1948, and statistically the most successful Formula One team in history with a record of 15 drivers championships. As a constructor, Ferrari has 16 constructors championships.
The Ferrari logo is a design that I will always love and i think it is as recognizable today as the Nike tick or the Golden arches of Mcdonalds. Ferrari have always involved in racing and the badge speaks that for itself. The rearing stallion on a yellow background depicts a strong, brilliantly fast racing team that cannot be tamed or stopped on the race track as well as having grace and style for an elite class of people.
This piece of design is a timeless classic and i do not think it could ever get tired or old fashioned.
Sauber Motorsport AG (racing in the 2010 season as BMW Sauber F1 Team) is a Swiss Formula One team. It was founded in the 1970s by Peter Sauber, who progressed through hill climbing and the world sports car championships to reach Formula One in 1993.
Having not won a Grand Prix as an independent, the team was sold to BMW in 2005, and competed as BMW Sauber from 2006 to 2009, scoring one victory. At the end of the 2009 season, however, BMW pulled out of Formula One and the team's future remained uncertain for several months, until it was sold back to Peter Sauber and granted a 2010 entry.
A fairly basic looking piece of design that some what resembles the British airways logo. The type is fairly boring and there doesn't seem to look like much time or effort has been put into the image side of things either. The BMW logo can be seen on the right hand side and it almost looks out of place next to the rest of the design.
Williams, the trading name of Williams Grand Prix Engineering Ltd., is a Formula One motor Racing team and constructor. It was founded and run by Sir Frank Williams and Patrick Head. The team was formed in 1977 after two earlier and, compared with WilliamsF1's achievements, unsuccessful F1 operations, Frank Williams Racing cars and Walter Wolf Racing. All of WilliamsF1 chassis are called "FW" then a number, the FW being the initials of team owner, Frank Williams.
This logos is fairly bold and I think the navy blue and the white work well together, however there does seem to be a little too much separation between the two companies. For example other teams in the 2010 seem to be unified in the design but this logo looks as if there are two different company logos sitting next to each other. When I come to produce my work I will look to bind things with greater effect than this.
